IFSCA Updates Nodal Officer for WMD & UAPA Compliance

The International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) has issued a circular announcing a change in the designated Nodal Officer responsible for implementing Section 12A of The Weapons of Mass Destruction and their Delivery Systems (Prohibition of Unlawful Activities) Act, 2005 (WMD Act) and Section 51A of The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA). This update modifies the earlier circular dated October 20, 2023, and a communication issued on April 21, 2023, regarding the procedure for compliance with these legal provisions.

Ankit Bhansali, General Manager of the Division of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) & Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT), has been designated as the new Nodal Officer. Regulated entities operating in GIFT-IFSC must refer to the updated circular for compliance procedures. The circular is available on the IFSCA website, providing access to the latest UNSC Sanctions Committee List and WMD Act Designated Lists.

Sir/Madam,

A. Reference may be drawn to Circular dated 20^th October 2023 regarding Procedure for implementation of Section 12A of The Weapons of Mass Destruction and their Delivery Systems (Prohibition of Unlawful Activities) Act, 2005 (`WMD Act’) and also to Communication dated 21′ April 2023 regarding Procedure for implementation of Section 51A of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (`UAPA’), on appointment of Nodal Officer for implementation of provisions of Section 51A of the UAPA and Section 12A of the WMD Act.

B. In partial modification of aforesaid circular and communication, the undersigned has been designated as new Nodal Officer for implementation of provisions of Section 51A of the UAPA and Section 12A of the WMD Act.
