Companies, such as Balaji Alloys, Raven Bhel and Pee Ell Alloys, moved the income tax appellate tribunal (ITAT) against an income-tax department notice that required them to give the tax.

Investigators charged the actor in 2006 after re-assessing his accounts.

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) has asked the Income-Tax Department and the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to consider exemption of Third Party Administrators (TPAs) from Tax Deducted at Source (TDS). According to a recent CBDT circular, the TPAs would have to deduct 10 per cent of the amount as tax when making payments to hospitals on behalf of patients.

CBDT issues clarification on procedure for remittances abroad by diplomatic missions

The Government has clarified that while remitting consular receipts abroad, diplomatic missions in India will be required to submit only a self certified undertaking in Form No 15CA to the remitter bank and they are not required to obtain a certificate from an accountant / certificate of Assessing officer in Form 15CB. A circular No.9 of 2009 to this effect was issued by Central Board of Direct Taxes, here today.

Circular No. 9/2009 – Income Tax In view of the above, while remitting consular receipts abroad, diplomatic missions in India will be required to submit only a self certified undertaking in Form No 15CA to the remitter bank. The Income Tax department in Gujarat executed 422 warrants in 2008-09 compared to 158 in the previous year and has managed to seize assets worth Rs 45.45 crore, which is up significantly from last fiscal’s Rs 10.89 crore. The figures were given out by the Union minister of state for finance S S Palanimanickam in reply to the questions raised by Parimal Nathwani, MP from Jharkhand and Group President of Reliance .

GST registration will be through uniform PAN-linked business identification number

The model legislation for the introduction of goods and services tax (GST) will have a provision for registration of individuals and companies which pay the tax.The registration will be done through a uniform PAN-linked business identification number. The Department of Revenue in the Ministry of Finance had recently sent a proposal to state governments for making the 10-digit permanent account number (PAN) the starting point for registering GST payees.
