The Government has granted sanction to State Bank of India (SBI), under Section 35(1) of the State Bank of India Act, 1955, vide Department of Financial Services’ letter dated 08.10.2009 for proceeding with the negotiation with State Bank of Indore for acquiring its business. Consequently, the scheme of acquisition of State Bank of Indore by the Stat Bank of India have been approved by Board of both the Banks. The Government keeps in view the interest of all the stakeholders including employees of the merging banks.

The government is examining a proposal seeking to split the compensation package of independent directors into fixed and variable components to ensure they play an active role in the affairs of companies. The variable component will be linked to the attendance at the board meetings, an official with the minsitry of corporate affairs told to a leading newspaper.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) had issued a letter dated 20 August 2009 requiring all foreign nationals in India holding Business Visa (BV) and working on project/ contract based assignments in India to return to their home countries on expiry of their BV or by 30 September 2009, whichever is earlier. This deadline was subsequently extended to 31 October 2009 by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
SSI Exemption is granted subject to fulfillment of certain conditions which are prescribed in Notification no. 8/2003. One of the conditions prescribed is that the SSI exemption will not be applicable to specified goods bearing a brand name or trade name of another person, irrespective of the fact whether such brand name was registered or not contained in Para 4 of the Notification. However, exceptions are also provided to this condition such as goods cleared as ‘original equipment’, goods bearing brand name or trade name of KVIC or if such goods were manufactured in factory located in rural area.
The commerce and industry ministry will review the growth of the country’s export sector by the middle of this month to assess the need for extending further stimulus for the exporting community, particularly, the labour-intensive sectors. The country’s exports have been declining ever since the fall of Lehman Brothers and the onset of the global economic downturn in September last year.
The Indian job market has not been as adversely affected by global recession as was being presumed, thanks to ‘job increase’ in the public sector, UPSC Chairman D P Agrawal said on Monday.He said the quantum of job loss witnessed in the private sector was made good by creation of more jobs in the public sector.
