Recently, EPFO allowed its subscribers to file their PF withdrawal applications directly to the retirement fund body without employers’ attestation thereby easing the process of PF withdrawal by employees.
As per paragraph 38(1) of the EPF Scheme, 1952, paragraph 3 of EPS, 1995 and paragraph 8(1) of EDLI Scheme, 1976, the employers are required to pay the contributions and administrative charges within fifteen days of dose of every month. The employer, as per para 5.1.3 of Manual of Accounting Procedure (Part-I General), is also allowed a grace period of 5 days to remit the contribution.
While reviewing the progress of EPFO on all fronts for the month of November, 2015, Shri K.K. Jalan, CPFC noted that by November end, the organization has settled more than 76 lakh claims in the current fiscal out of which more than 40% were settled within 3 days.

After leaving employment, employees were supposed to get their forms for withdrawals attested through employer as earlier it was only the employer who could identify the worker and his/her details. After launch of UAN, EPFO has started collecting the KYC details such as Aadhaar, PAN, Bank details etc.
In a major step, the organization has clarified that student trainees who are paid stipend during on the job training while pursuing course in technical /professional educational institutions would not come under the definition of employee for the purpose of EPF &MP Act. This removes the ambiguity surrounding the eligibility of such student-trainees for enrolling as members of the Fund and is expected to bring about greater clarity among employers and also reduce litigations.
