FEMA – Non-Resident Indian /PIOs permitted to open NRE / FCNR (B) account with their resident close relative

Non-Resident Indian (NRI), as defined in FEMA Notification No. 5, ibid, may be permitted to open NRE / FCNR(B) account with their resident close relative (relative as defined in Section 6 of the Companies Act, 1956) on ‘former or survivor’ basis. The resident close relative shall be eligible to operate the account as a Power of Attorney holder in accordance with extant instructions during the life time of the NRI/ PIO account holder.

FEMA – RBI permits individuals resident in India to include non-resident close relative(s) as a joint holder(s) in their resident bank accounts

It has been decided that individuals resident in India may be permitted to include non-resident close relative(s) (relatives as defined in Section 6 of the Companies Act, 1956) as a joint holder(s) in their resident bank accounts on ‘former or survivor’ basis. However, such non- resident Indian close relatives shall not be eligible to operate the account during the life time of the resident account holder.

Following the announcement by the Union Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee in his budget 2011-12, the Government in consultation with the regulators had raised the limit for FII investment in long-term corporate bonds issued by the companies in the infrastructure sector from USD 5 billion to USD 25 billion. This scheme was operationalised vide SEBI circular CIR/IMD/FIIC/5/2011 dated 31st March 2011.

Please refer to paragraph 5 of Annexure – I of our circular RPCD. NO. PLNFS.BC.57/06.04.01/2001-2002 dated January 16, 2002 on captioned subject. Norms for grant of reliefs and concessions by banks to potentially viable sick SSI units for rehabilitation as furnished in Appendix-II of the above circular were recently re-examined. It was observed that all the banks have migrated to the Base Rate regime with effect from July 1, 2010 and references to PLR/BPLR are no more meaningful.

The Reserve Bank of India today released its ‘Quarterly Statistics on Deposits and Credit of Scheduled Commercial Banks, March 2011’. The publication contains data relating to deposits and credit of scheduled commercial banks including regional rural banks (RRBs) as on March 31, 2011. The data are based on Basic Statistical Return (BSR)-7 received from all scheduled commercial banks (including RRBs).

External Commercial Borrowings – RBI simplifies procedure

As a measure of simplification of the existing procedures, it has been decided to delegate powers to the designated AD Category-I banks to approve the request from the ECB borrowers with respect to change in the recognized lender when the original lender is an international bank or a multilateral financial institution (such as IFC, ADB, CDC, etc.) or a regional financial institution or a Government owned development financial institution or an export credit agency or supplier of equipment and the new lender also belongs to any one of the above mentioned categories, subject to the Authorised Dealer ensuring the following conditions:
