A reminder to all the Tax return preparers and the assessees filling your ITR of a very imp Income tax related update brought about for ITR Filing for FY 18-19 onwards.

From March 1, 2019, the I-T department has started issuing income tax refunds only through e-mode. The new rule means that the earlier practice of sending tax refund cheques through Speed Post has been done away with.

In response to the above development, assessees are required to pre-validate their bank account with the income tax e-filing portal to receive tax refund.

Online procedure to pre-validate bank account is as follows:

1. Visit the Income tax e-filing portal i.e. https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home

2. Click on the ‘Login’ option and enter your login credentials.User ID is your PAN.

3. Upon logging in successfully, click on ‘Profile Settings’ and choose ‘Pre-validate Your Bank Account’ option.

4. Now, enter your bank account details such as account number, IFSC, bank name, and contact details.

5. Upon clicking ‘Pre-validate’ button, you will be redirected to a screen that says, “Your request for pre-validating bank account is submitted.

6. Status of your request will be sent to your registered email ID and mobile number.

7. If the bank account validation is successful, it will display as “Validated” in the Pre-validation tab.

Sir, while i am applied for refund;it shown pre validation of your bank account with your registered mobile number.it was more than 3 days reflects that request successfully submitted and no further updates.Actually the mobile number register with bank is not owned by me;it owned by one one of family members.is it any issue generated with the current registered mobile number which was mismatched with names.if yes pls suggest what will be next action to claim refund

To my opinion, who owns the phone doesn’t matter until and unless it’s registered with your bank account as per Bank records.
The delay in updating is happening in current times due to probably lack of back end support to bank due to COVID. You may wait for a week’s time and then check the status. If it still doesn’t reflect, kindly contact your branch to get it resolved and validated. You may show them the image of Income tax website and ask them to resolve the same so as to make way for your refund credit.

    Hi Sir,
I have added the Bank details in the pre validation but the request is in “BANK ACCOUNT DETAILS VERIFICATION FAILED BECAUSE OF TECHNICAL ISSUE WITH BANK” status for a long time. How to get it validated ?

    1. ankit3210 says:

For pre-validation, there is no option than to have an Indian bank account so that the same can be duly filled there as per the requisite details

Sir, in my case the prevalidate bank details status is “request submitted” for more than a year. Should I contact the bank for getting it validated ?

  4. ankit3210 says:

    Status column:

    1. Validated – The bank account details are correct and validated.

    2. Validated and EVC enabled – The bank account details are validated and this bank account is enabled for EVC. So when you request EVC Code you will get it on the mobile number registered with the bank for this account automatically.

    3. Validation failed – PAN not linked with the Bank account or the details entered are incorrect.

    And the recent being

    4. Request submitted(for over a week) – Contact your branch to get it resolved and validated as the same is faced by many due to lack of online support by Bank and back office.

Hello, my refund failed due to “The type of Bank Account provided in the return is not eligible for crediting the refund.”

Now I understand that I need to pre-validate my account. My account is an NRO account. When I try to pre-validate I am asked to provide a phone number linked to the bank account. But when i try to enter my full number (with international code) the number gets truncated as it does not take more than 10 digits. How do I take this forward?

    Thanks.

    1. ankit3210 says:

The solution to your issue is that you will have to link a Indian mobile number to your NRO Account so as to get this pre-validation done successfully and have your refund conundrum solved.

Can I know the date of official announcement of the mandatory requirement for prevalidating the bank account and the notification or circular number or any number of public communication

    1. ankit3210 says:

The official twitter handle of Income Tax Department, on 27-02-2019, tweeted about this in which it mentioned about this new requirement of mandatory linking of Bank account for getting refund, with the effective date being 01st of March, 2019.

    Hi Sir,
I have added the Bank details in the pre validation but the request is in “Request Submitted” status for a long time. How to get it validated ?

    1. ankit3210 says:

If you are OK with it, do share the screenshots of the relevant page on my contact no 9820664002 or email as preferred so as to know exactly the issue and accordingly guide you.
Ideally the request submitted gets validated or gets rejected within the next 24 hours. Thus, need to check it out why the same has not happened in your case

I have received intimation of ITR processing and confirmation that my refund has been credited.
But the amount is not credited to my pre-validated bank account. SBI says my refund is credited but the credit is not seen in my account.
    I need your advice

    1. ankit3210 says:

Kindly provide me the relevant details of your ITR i.e. ITR Acknowledgement and also ITR Copy over the mail so as to check the exact issue and let you know. My mail ID is ankitlohiya3210@gmail.com.
