    Sir,

I would like to know if an assessee is engaged in Trading and IT Services. The turnover from trading is less than 1 crore and from IT Services is more than 1 crore, whether he will be required to get the accounts audited U/S 44AB for both or for IT Services only. The assessee is not maintaining separate books of accounts. If two audit reports are there then both the Audit Reports can not be uploaded. What is the remedy.

    Please reply immediately.

    Thanks

    TK

I think that this mail has been received from all taxpayers who had not filed their tax return by August 31, 2015. The department has assumed that all these cases required audit under the various provisions of the Income Tax Act. The mail states that even for the last assessment year 2014-15, the audit had to be conducted which sounds very ridiculous. It creates an impression that the tax payer has already evaded the law in the last assessment year, where as in most of the cases that may not be the case. The intention of the mail, I think, is to educate the tax payers about their obligations but the language used gives a different impression.

    Warm regards,

    Naveen Rishi
