Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently arrested a Sales Tax Officer Class-II/AVATO from Ward No. 95, Zone-8, Govt. of NCT Delhi for accepting a bribe of Rs. 40,000 from a complainant. The arrest came after the CBI registered a case based on a complaint alleging that the officer demanded a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh from a practicing tax consultant. This demand was purportedly in exchange for resolving an issue related to Input Tax Credit (ITC) for the complainant’s client, M/s Gupta Agency, and dropping proceedings for the cancellation of the agency’s registration.

During negotiations, the accused allegedly agreed to accept a reduced bribe amount of at least Rs. 40,000. In response to the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and apprehended the officer while he was accepting the bribe. Following the arrest, searches were conducted at the accused’s residential and office premises in Delhi.

The accused was promptly produced before the competent court, and the investigation into the matter is ongoing. This arrest underscores the CBI’s commitment to combat corruption and hold accountable those who engage in illegal activities, particularly public officials who abuse their positions for personal gain.
