Subject: Amendment in Form RT-12 to provide Opening Balance & Closing Balance- Regarding

I am directed to draw your attention to Circular Nos. 249/83/96-CX dated 11.10.96 and No. 273/107/96-CX dated 21.11.96 prescribing the revised format of Form RT-12.

2.  It has been brought to the notice of the Board that in absence of Opening Balance and Closing Balance in the said format of Form RT-12 is posing difficulties in the on-line Computerised verification of RT-12 Returns. It has, therefore, been decided to modify the  columns of the Form RT-12.

3.  In the been Form RT-12, after the words “Branch Code Number” and before the words “NOTES” the following columns shall be substituted which are as follows:-

Description of goods as appearing in the invoice and tariff heading/ subheading Unit Opening Balance Quantity manufactured during the month/period

Quantity received from outside under any provision

Total Quantity

Quantity cleared on payment of duty Quantity of duty free clearances
