Public Notice No. 60 (RE-01)/1997-2002, Dated: 07.01.2002

The Ministry of Commerce & Industry, through Public Notice No. 60 (RE-01)/1997-2002, issued on January 7, 2002, introduced amendments to the DEPB (Duty Entitlement Pass Book) rate list, as part of the Export and Import Policy for the 1997-2002 period. The primary change involved the modification of sub-categories under the DEPB product groups, where alphabetic symbols and numerals in the description were standardized for consistency. This was done to align with the DGFT’s EDI systems, ensuring better compatibility while maintaining the existing DEPB descriptions, rates, and value caps. The updated list includes specific DEPB rates and value caps for products under engineering, chemicals, plastics, electronics, and textiles. For instance, items such as nuts, bolts, automobile tyres, radios, and textiles saw adjusted rates, with further breakdowns for different materials and product types. The changes ensure a more streamlined and accurate representation of product classifications and their respective export benefits. The notice reaffirms that these adjustments will not alter the actual DEPB values or the caps attached to them, serving as a technical update for better export facilitation.

NEW DELHI, THE 7^th January, 2002;

In exercise of powers conferred under Paragraph 4.11 of the Export and Import Policy 1997-2002, as notified in the Gazette of India extraordinary, Part-II Section 3, Sub section (ii) vide S. O. No: 283 (E) dated 31.03.1997, the Director General of Foreign Trade hereby makes the following amendment in Handbook (Vol.I). (RE-01), 1997-2002.;

(1) The following is added at Sr. No: 9 to the General Instruction in Appendix 28A pertaining to “DEPB Rate List”.;

9. Wherever the letters (a), (b), (c) ——- etc. have been used to denote sub-categories of the DEPB product, these would be replaced by the letters a, b, c,——- and so on. Similarly the numerals 37A and 37B under the Chemicals Product Group pertaining to specific DEPB entries would be replaced by the numerals 37a and 37b respectively.;

(2) In order to make the DEPB descriptions compatible with the EDI systems in place at the offices of the DGFT, the following amendments are carried out in Appendix 28A as per Annexure to this Public Notice.

However this does in no way alter the actual DEPB descriptions, DEPB rates and the value caps associated therein.;
