Notification No. 6 (RE-2001), dated March 31, 2001, updates the ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items under the Export and Import Policy 1997-2002. The notification introduces new entries for specific items, including copper dross, spent metal catalysts containing copper, zinc, and nickel, which are now categorized as free for import. However, imports of these items are only permitted to units registered with the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India. A further entry covers copper scrap, such as copper wire and jelly-filled cables, which is also categorized as free for import under similar conditions. Additionally, certain other entries related to hazardous waste processing or reuse are restricted and can only be imported against a license. The notification also deletes two existing entries from the list, effectively removing them from the import classifications. These amendments aim to regulate the import of hazardous and recycled materials and ensure environmental compliance
