The Reserve Bank today said the domestic banks do not have much exposure to the debt-ridden Dubai World and hence their balance sheets will not be materially affected from the crisis. In the larger context, the rating agency Moody’s also today said the ratings of Asian banks are not likely to be downgraded, unless there is a massive restructuring in Dubai.
Christmas cheer has come early for foreign nationals working in India. They can now take their entire post-tax salaries home, following a change in rules to this effect by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). This will benefit sectors such as aviation, telecom and infrastructure, which employ a large number of expats, making it easier for them to attract talent from abroad. Earlier, expats could take only 75% of their salaries abroad.
Allows inclusion of technical write-offs while calculating provision coverage ratio. In a relief to a large number of banks such as Canara Bank, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has allowed the lenders to include technical write-offs while increasing the provision coverage ratio (PCR) to 70 per cent.

Allotment under the non-competitive segment to the bank or PD will be at the cut-off price that will emerge in the auction on the basis of the competitive bidding.
UBD.BPD (PCB).Cir No.25/09.11.200/2009-10 Dated – December 3, 2009 The Government had in exercise of powers conferred by Section 35 of the Act issued (Removal of Difficulties) Order, 2008 dated January 24, 2008 extending the last date for taking membership of at least one credit information company by credit institutions to December 31, 2008. A copy of captioned Notification dated January 24, 2008 is enclosed for information and necessary action. Further extension of time is under consideration.

Cir.No.42/09.11.200/2006-07 dated May 7, 2007 permitting Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs) to undertake insurance business as corporate agent and/or on referral basis without risk participation subject to fulfilment of certain conditions. UCBs have been advised to sell insurance products to the bank’s customers with adequate disclosure and transparency and they should not adopt any restrictive practice of forcing its customers to go in only for a particular insurance company in respect of products marketed by the bank. The customers should be allowed to exercise their own choice.
Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has issued a Statement on October 16, 2009 on risks arising from the deficiencies in AML/CFT regime of Uzbekistan, Iran, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Sao Tome and Principe on the subject (copy enclosed). All NBFCs and RNBCs are accordingly advised to take into account risks arising from the deficiencies in AML/CFT regime of Iran, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan and Sao Tome and Principe.
Based on the recommendations of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) in its meeting held on November 20, 2009, Government has approved 17 Proposals of Foreign Direct Investment amounting to Rs. 4551.05 Crore approximately, the largest chunk of which is likely to be invested by a Russian government agency in telecom company Sistema Shyam.
As you are aware, the Credit Information Companies (Regulation) Act, 2005 has been operationalised with effect from December 14, 2006. In terms of Section 15(1) of the Act, every credit institution has to become member of at least one credit information company within a period of three months from commencement of the Act or any extended time allowed by the Reserve Bank on application.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is likely to turn down a fresh request from banks to increase the exposure limit to a single corporate group.Banks led by State Bank of India (SBI) had approached RBI to relax group exposure norms for infrastructure sectors, at least for corporate houses that enjoy a high level of credibility.
