The Government launched a concerted drive against black money with Demonetization being an important step in that direction. The Government of India decided to cancel the Legal Tender Status of Rs. 1000 and Rs. 500 denomination currency notes on 8th November 2016 with several objectives: (i) flushing out black money, (ii) eliminate Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN), (iii) to strike at the root of financing of terrorism and left wing extremism, (iv) to convert non-formal economy into a formal economy to expand tax base and employment and (v) to give a big boost to digitalization of payments to make India a less cash economy.
CBDT has entered into 4 more Advance Pricing Agreements (APAs) during August, 2017. Out of these 4 Agreements, 3 are Unilateral and 1 is a Bilateral. The Bilateral APA is for international transactions between an Indian company and a UK-based company.
Depreciation on goodwill has been a matter of considerable debate. Although the Supreme Court, in its landmark judgment in the case of Smifs Securities, held that goodwill is an intangible asset within the meaning of section 32 of the Income-tax Act, 1961 (the Act) and depreciation on goodwill is allowable under the section, some judgments have held otherwise, making the issue a highly debatable one.
Where CIT (A) had annulled original scrutiny assessment concluded under section 143(3) on the legal ground that notice issued under section 143(2) was time-barred, then revenue was precluded to adopt recourse of reassessment under section 147 to correct the mistake committed originally in not issuing notice under section 143(2) in time.

When income of the assessee was computed by applying gross profit rate, there was no need to look into the provisions of section 40A(3), as applying the gross profit rate takes care of expenditure otherwise by way of cross cheque also. Following the same the action of Tribunal could not be held as unjustified.
