Accounting regulator ICAI has asked the government to stop giving assignments to tainted audit firms, a move that would discourage wrong doings and promote entities with honest track records. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has mooted this suggestion in its final high powered committee report on Satyam submitted to the corporate affairs ministry.

Audit firm Price Waterhouse has moved the Bombay High Court challenging the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s jurisdiction to investigate its role in the multi-crore Satyam fraud.The audit firm filed a petition in the Bombay High Court on Thursday, seeking a stay on the SEBI proceedings on the grounds that the capital market regulator has no jurisdiction over audit firms.

The Commissioner Co-operation, Pune has intimated to the WIRC, vide letter dated 19th May, 2010 to prepare fresh panel for the Audit of Urban Co-operative Banks having deposit exceeding Rs.25 Crores. The Division-wise and District-wise panel shall be prepared by September, 2010 and the Co-operative Department will notify the panel by November, 2010.

For students appearing in November 2010 examination, the amendments made by the Finance (No.2) Act, 2009, as applicable for assessment year 2010-11, are relevant. Therefore, the amendments made by the Finance (No.2) Act, 2009 which are not applicable for A.Y.2010-11 would not be relevant for students appearing for November 2010 examination.
