New Delhi:  A Senior Income Tax Commissioner – Sanjay Srivastava – become the  first income tax commissioner to be sentenced to jail for contempt by the Delhi High Court.  Mr Srivastava has been sentenced to 15 days in jail by a division bench of the court in its order dated 17.01.2014.

Mr.  Sanjay Srivastava had been accused of sexually harassing some of his female colleagues by making lewd and sexist comments. Despite being found guilty by the court and ordered to stop making these comments, Mr Srivastava continued to do so. A division bench has found him guilty of contempt and sentenced him to jail.

In separate cases, the two female colleagues have filed police complaints against Mr Srivastava and that case is pending in the trial court.

    Sanjay was said to be exposing NDTV money laundering scam of more than 5000 crores in which Chidambaram was also allegedly involved. The current case is fallout of the same. (google NDTV-Chidambaram scam).

    Yes,I agree with Ram Babu because this is the only way to teach lesson to officials posted at such high level & misusing their positions against the ladies.

    15 days in this type of case to such a senior level officer + who did not change himself inspite of warning by Courts is not sufficeint. In this type of cases (i.e involving the society OR of public interest) instead of sending jail , the court should have asked him to do the job of a sweeeper OR scavenger in the very same office for 15 days.
