The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Ludhiana and a Chartered Accountant for demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.Six Lakh from the complainant.
A case was registered in CBI on a complaint from a businessman alleging demand of bribe by a Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Ludhiana. The complainant alleged that searches were conducted by Income Tax Department at his business & residential premises at various places. Later on, the matter was referred to Income Tax Department, Ludhiana for assessment. In this regard, the Dy. Commissioner, Income Tax, Ludhiana called him & allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs.10 Lakh to help him and his family members in their income tax assessment case. As the complainant expressed inability to pay such a heavy amount, the demand of bribe was reduced to Rs.Six Lakh.
CBI laid a trap and the Dy. Commissioner of Income Tax & a Chartered Accountant were caught red handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs. Six Lakh from the Complainant.
