The Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), through Public Notice No. 68 (RE-01)/1997-2002 dated February 8, 2002, amended the Handbook of Procedures (Vol 1) for the Export and Import Policy 1997-2002. Under these updates, new Agri Export Zones (AEZs) have been designated for specific products and regions. The districts of Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu and Nasik, Sangli, Pune, Sholapur, Satara, and Ahmednagar in Maharashtra have been added as AEZs for cut flowers and grapes & grapevine, respectively. Additionally, modifications were made to existing AEZs. For pineapples in West Bengal, the zones now include Darjeeling, Uttar Dinajpur, Cooch Behar, and Jalpaiguri. For lychees in Uttaranchal, the specified districts are Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, and Dehradun. These changes aim to promote agricultural exports by specifying zones for focused development and investment. The notification was issued in the public interest under Paragraph 4.11 of the Export and Import Policy 1997-2002.

In exercise of powers conferred under Paragraph 4.11 of the Export and Import Policy 1997-2002, as notified in the Gazette of India extraordinary, Part-II Section 3, Sub section (ii) vide S.O. No.283(E) dated 31.03.1997, the Director General of Foreign Trade hereby makes the following amendment in Handbook (Vol 1).(RE-01), 1997-2002.
1) The following are notified as Agri Export Zones and added in the table at Appendix 59 pertaining to “Agri Export Zone”. These zones shall cover the districts specified in the table below.
