Security Issues and Risk mitigation measures – Online alerts to the cardholder for usage of credit/debit cards

Recently, incidents of unauthorized /fraudulent withdrawals at ATMs have come to the notice of RBI. It is important to arrest the incidents of such frauds in order to further encourage card based transactions in the country where the use of credit/debit cards plays an important role. It is therefore decided that banks make take steps to put in place a system of online alerts for all types of transactions irrespective of the amount, involving usage of cards at various channels. This measure is expected to encourage further usage of cards at various delivery channels. Banks may implement this measure latest by June 30, 2011.

RPCD.CO.RCB.BC.No.57/07.02.03/2010-11- We advise that in a meeting of ‘Committee on Investors Education and Protection Fund’ held by the Government of India, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, New Delhi, it has, inter-alia, been decided that banks should make ‘investor awareness’ as one of the agenda items in their periodical meetings with their customers at semi urban/rural branches so that more people are covered under the programme.

Notification No. 16/2011- Income Tax “Certificate for deduction at lower rates or no deduction of tax from income other than dividends. 28AA. (1) Where the Assessing Officer, on an application made by a person under sub-rule (1) of rule 28 is satisfied that existing and estimated tax liability of a person justifies deduction of tax at lower rate or no deduction of tax, as the case may be, the Assessing Officer shall issue a certificate in accordance with the provisions of sub-section (1) of section 197 for deduction of tax at such lower rate or no deduction of tax.

IRDA Guidelines Pertaining to Agents

Reference is invited to circulars ref. IRDA/CAD/GDL/AGN/016/02/2011 dated 11th February, 2011& IRDA/CAD/GDL/AGN/016/02/2011 dated 14th February, 2011 prescribing guidelines relating to individual agents in respect of life insurance and Non Life Insurance respectively. Vide the above referred circular dated 11th February, 2011 issued in respect of life insurance the Authority has put in place certain persistency bench marks for individual life insurance agents. The Authority has also mandated all insurers vide above circulars to lay down Minimum Business requirements for agents which shall be incorporated in agency agreements.
