13. It may be mentioned that provisions of section 145A were inserted by the Finance Act No. 2, 1998 w.e.f. 1-4-1999. It may be mentioned that prior to assessment year 1998-99 the entire provisions relating to method of accounting were contained in sec. 145 only. As per that sec. The income under the head ‘profits and gains of business’ or ‘other sources’
(1) The Act broadly provides for two types of tax incentives, namely, investment linked incentives and profit linked incentives. Ch VI-A essentially belongs to the category of “profit linked incentives” (2) When ss. 80-IA/80-IB refer to profits derived from eligible business, it is not the ownership of that business which attracts the incentives but the generation of profits (operational profits)
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is likely to come out with insurance specific accounting standards in the next three months, a top official said. “We are likely to come out with it (insurance sector accounting standards) in the next two-three months,” ICAI President, Uttam Prakash Agarwal, told.
