From the FY 2016-17 Ind AS will be in place and have a big impact on the Financial Statement i.e. Net Profit of the company. Calculation of MAT depends upon the Net Profit as per the Books of Accounts after certain adjustments as defined in Section 115JB. So it can be derived that the adoption of Ind AS, the MAT liability of a company can go undergo a complete change.

Stakeholders have sought clarifications with regard to the accounting period for which the accounts would need to be prepared using the Accounting Standards, as amended through the Companies (Accounting Standards) Amendment Rules, 2016. The matter has been examined in the Ministry and it is hereby clarified that the amended Accounting Standards should be used for preparation of accounts for accounting periods commencing on or after the date of notification.

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), Government of India has notified the Companies (Indian Accounting Standards) Rules, 2015 on February 16, 2015. A reference is also invited to the Press Release dated January 18, 2016 issued by the MCA outlining the roadmap for implementation of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) converged Indian Accounting Standards for banks, non-banking financial companies, select All India Term Lending and Refinancing Institutions and insurance entities.
IND AS 2 – Inventories- Objective of the standard is to determine the cost of inventory and its subsequent recognition as an expense, including any writing down of value to its net realisable value. Standard applies to all inventories; except a) website cost, stripping cost; b) financial instruments and c) biological assets.
