SUPERINTENDENT OF SERVICE TAX SENTENCED IN A BRIBERY CASE

The Special Judge for CBI Cases, Bangalore, Shri M.S. Biradar, has convicted M.A.Raghuraman, the then Superintendent of Service Tax, Commissionerate of Service Tax, Bangalore to undergo 1 ½ years simple Imprisonment with fine of Rs.10,000/- in a bribery case.
The CBI had filed a charge sheet against M.A.Raghuraman, the then Superintendent of Service Tax, Commissionerate of Service Tax, Bangalore U/s 7 and Sec. 13(2)r/w 13(1) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The allegations as per the charge sheet were that M.A.Raghuraman Shah was caught red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 12000/- from Bangalore-based complainant for showing him official favour.
The charge sheet in this case was filed on 13.12.2011 and the trial was completed within 9 months. The entire process from the date of registration and pronouncing judgement was over within one year.
Habit of Bribery seemed like cancer of society and develop dependency in guidance to new generation with ego problem, it should be wiped out at once.
Still our country has travel long in abolition of corruption in all walks of life.
