Mumbai- The Anti-Corruption Bureau of CBI has arrested two Income Tax officials for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 for processing tax refund claims. Senior tax assistant Sudarshan Kale and tax assistant Sunil Gangurde were caught red handed yesterday while accepting the amount from the complainant, a CBI release said.
According to CBI, the officials had demanded bribe for processing the Income Tax refund claims of the complainant for assessment year 2009-10.
The complainant approached CBI following which a trap was laid and the duo were caught. About Rs 75,000 was recovered from Kale’s office and Rs 8900 was seized from Gangurde’s office.
Searches were conducted also at the residences of both the accused and incriminating documents were recovered.
“It is believed that the duo were habitually taking money from several persons to process their tax refund claims,”the release added.
