As per rule 12 of the Income-tax Rules, in case of individuals and certain other specified taxpayer, returns may be filed electronically followed by submission of signed paper copy of ITR-Verification form (ITR-V). However, to provide end-to-end enabled services to the tax payers, a facility has been introduced for electronic verification of the Income-tax Returns for A.Y. 2015-16 in these cases.

Under this, a taxpayer may verify his return through Internet Banking or through Aadhaar based authentication process.

For the convenience of small taxpayers having total income of Rs. 5 lakhs or below without any claim of refund, facility for generating Electronic Verification Code (EVC) has also been provided on the E-filing website of the Department. In such cases EVC will be sent to the Registered Email ID and Mobile Number of the taxpayer. Persons using this facility will not be required to submit a signed paper copy of ITR-V to the Income-tax Department.

Taxpayers are permitted to use Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) to verify their e-filed Income-tax return. The electronic signature is a type of DSC and can be used to verify e-filed Income-tax return. As mentioned above, the taxpayers can use their Aadhaar number for e-filing of return as per the Aadhaar based authentication process.

This was stated by Shri Jayant Sinha, Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance in written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today. (PIB)

    Electronic verification of Income Tax Returns using Aadhar card number is very simple and useful. I did it for my returns and advised my friends to follow.
    Those filing returns through CA may follow the age old method of physical signature and posting the same.

    I fully agree with S Prakash….. no body can share its sensitive details like net banking,ATM and other details will not be disclosed by the clients to CA, etc. for Lay man and other tooo is very difficult to file returns.. Many of us has not linked current mobile number with ADHAAR.. don’t know how this nonsense decision are taken and implemented too. There must be need for revised & friendly updation.

  3. Manoj Sharma says:

    All this is nothing but a ploy to collect AADHAR data & link it with the respective PAN. For the Counsels its getting more bothersome by the day. The process of acquiring new DSCs is so horrible that one feels it is being done intentionally !!

  4. S PRAKASH says:

    sir, recently the department has announced that the e filed returns should be e- verified and has prescribed some parameters and procedures which is an hurdle for a lay man to file the returns.On one side the dept wants to increase the tax base,but on another side the CBDT is making number of changes in filing procedures itself which is not user friendly and will reduce the number of vouenteery return filing.Under these circumstances we do not know whether the CBDT is aware of the practical problems in filing the returns e verification as some of the sensitive details like net banking,ATM and other details will not be disclosed by the clients to CA, Advocate or tax consultant and if so how to e verify the return file and matching of ADHAAR is impossible as the government it self is not using the ADHAAR data base for any purposes and the Apex court verdict is awaited.You may be well aware that the forms for filing the returns in FORM 4,5,6 and 7 has till date notified and impact of the same is on the tax base adn the tax base has not been increased since many years.Even the existing assessess filing the return in time is impossible.Under these circumstances the Finance Ministry has no time to go through these practical problems of the income tax assessess as they are busy in PARLIAMENT over the other issues.

  5. Naveen says:

    these all are ‘shining through glasses’ companion;
    it don’t serve the purpose since the EVC generation is so theoretical task that it is to better to send ITR-V at Bengaluru.
