Bank’s List for Challan Payments

Earlier challan payment process has a very simple process with single platform TIN-NSDL. But now taxpayer must know about the changes that have been made by government before making any direct tax challan payment.

In case of using following banks for payment of TDS/Non TDS/Other Challan must be done from Protean (Earlier NSDL) site https://onlineservices.tin.egov-nsdl.com/etaxnew/tdsnontds.jsp

  1. Bank of Baroda
  2. HDFC Bank
  3. Punjab & Sind Bank
  4. State Bank of India

For payment of TDS/Non TDS/Other Challan from banks other than above, must be done from to ‘e-Pay Tax’ on https://www.incometax.gov.in/ to make direct tax payments (Banks previously available on OLTAS have been migrated to ‘e-Pay Tax’ facility of E-Filing portal).

To pay taxes from Income Tax Site, taxpayer can pay taxes either with PAN/TAN with Mobile OTP (no need to Login in IT Portal) or with User Id i.e. PAN/TAN & Password without mobile OTP (need to Register PAN/TAN & Login at IT Portal). Let us understand about each way one by one.

Required details to pay taxes from Income Tax Site – “e-Pay Tax” without making login to IT Portal using User Id & Password are as follows –

1. User ID – PAN/TAN

2. Password – PAN Login/TAN Login Password in IT Portal

3. Mobile No. – Enter Mobile Number for OTP verification (any mobile number)

Taxpayer can use this facility without any OTP after making Login in Income Tax Portal and pay taxes from “E-Pay Tax” Option under E filing tab.

Whether taxpayer opt for using PAN/TAN with OTP option or go for Login mode with User Id & Password, taxpayer have 5 modes i.e. Net Banking, Debit Card, Over the Counter, RTGS/NEFT & Payment Gateway with prescribed authorized banks under each mode available  in Income Tax “e-Pay Tax”. In this article you can check authorized banks list available under each mode and any special fact if there in that mode.

 1. Net Banking –

Taxpayer having bank account with following authorized banks can use this mode without any transaction charge/fee

  • Canara Bank
  • Indian Overseas Bank
  • Kotak Mahindra Bank
  • Bank of Maharashtra
  • ICICI Bank
  • Indian Bank
  • Karur Vysya Bank
  • Federal Bank
  • Bank of India
  • Central Bank of India
  • Punjab National Bank
  • Axis Bank
  • Other Banks – City Union Banks Limited
  • Other Banks – IDBI Bank
  • Other Banks – IndusInd Bank
  • Other Banks – Jammu And Kashmir Bank Limited
  • Other Banks – Uco Bank
  • Other Banks – Union Bank of India

2. Debit Card

Taxpayer having Debit card with following authorized banks (offering this mode) can use this mode without any transaction charge/fee –

1. Canara Bank

2. ICICI Bank

3. Indian Bank

4. Punjab National Bank

Note – Please select “Payment Gateway” mode for other bank’s Debit Card

3. Over the Counter (Pay at Bank Counter)

According to CBDT Notification 34/2008 this option cannot be used by taxpayer being a company or a person (other than a company)) falling u/s 44AB.

Payment through Cash, Cheque & Demand Draft except tax payment in cash more than Rs. 10000/- can be used without any transaction charge/fee at following authorized bank’s branch counter :-

1. Axis Bank

2. Bank of India

3. Bank of Maharashtra

4. Canara Bank

5. Central Bank of India

6. City Union Bank Limited

Note 1 – Signed Copy of Challan along with payment instrument should be presented at authorized bank’s counter.

Note 2 – Please select “NEFT/RTGS” mode in case of other banks.

4. NEFT/RTGS

Both Offline (at bank’s branch) & Online mode (at Bank’s Website) is available thorugh any bank having NEFT/RTGS Facility along with Bank Charges as prescribed by respective originator bank.

Taxpayer need to create Challan Form along with Mandate Form using this payment mode and then prints out of same should be used either at bank’s website or branch.

5. Payment Gateway

Wide range of payments options including net banking, Debit Card, Credit Card and UPI are available with 3 bank’s payment gateway Canara Bank, Federal Bank & Kotak Mahindra Bank. The selected payment gateway will redirect to its own page where taxpayer can select any option from available options there. Taxpayer can choose any payment gateway after due comparison between following Transaction Charges (* GST will be levied @18%) –

    Sir, We have paid TDS amount through Internet Banking of our SBI account under ‘e-Pay Tax’ facility of E-Filing portal by using of TAN and OTP. After completion of payment procedure the tax challan was not generated as per old procedure i.e., CIN No., BSR Code, Nature of Payment details are not shown in tax receipt. Please tell us the correct procedure to download of challan.
