Aadhaar based instant PAN is a new facility announced by the Income tax department to avail PAN card within a 10 minutes. Instant PAN generation is an easy and time saving process. This facility can be simply accessed by the PAN applicants who have a valid Aadhaar number and mobile number registered with their Aadhaar card. This facility was introduced to ease the PAN allotment process, thus making the ease of compliance for the taxpayers. This Instant PAN can be generated through online mode without providing any documentations.

e-PAN:

PAN number is issued in a pdf format and has an enhanced QR code with demographic and biometric information including the name, date of birth and photograph. All these information can be accessed through a QR code reader. It provides legal recognition of electronic records with digital signatures. It does not need any in person verification. PAN number is a 10 digit number composed of alphabets and numbers. It is a unique number and is required by financial companies and agencies. Only one PAN can be accessed by a single applicant as per the income tax norms. However, foreign citizens cannot make use of this facility.

Aadhaar based instant PAN allotment scheme:

Under this scheme, allotment of PAN is done on near-real time. In order to avail this service, the only thing that the applicants should possess is a valid Aadhaar number issued by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Instant PAN will be in a PDF format. As it comes up with the paper less facility, one can apply for a PAN from anywhere since there is no need to upload any documents for PAN generation.

PAN Generation:

Applicants have to enter their valid Aadhaar number. Once they have entered the Aadhaar number, they will receive an OTP on their registered mobile number. For e-PAN facility, e-KYC data of the Aadhaar number is exchanged with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). After that, PAN will be generated. Instant PAN is the same as that of the PAN issued by the Income-tax department via other modes of application. However, this PAN is paperless and free of cost.

Instant PAN Application process:

Instant PAN can be applied easily in a fewer steps.

In order to apply for instant PAN, one has to follow the below steps:

  • Visit the income tax website, i.e; incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
  • Click on the ‘Instant PAN through Aadhaar’ link.
  • Tap on the ‘Get New PAN’ option.
  • Fill the Aadhaar number and enter the captcha and click on confirm button by reading the terms and conditions.
  • Click the Generate Aadhar OTP link after entering all the details correctly or else click on cancel option to cancel the request.
  • Once the request is made, an OTP will be sent to their registered Aadhar mobile number.
  • Applicants have to enter the unique OTP in the text box available on the webpage.
  • Once the OTP is submitted, a 15 digit acknowledgement number will be generated.
  • Save this acknowledgment number for later use.
  • After successful completion, a message will be sent to their registered mobile number and e-mail id.

Downloading the e-PAN:

  • Instant PAN can be downloaded by following the below steps:
  • Go to the e-Filing website of the Income-tax department, i.e; incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
  • Click the ‘Instant PAN through Aadhaar’ link.
  • Tap on the ‘Check Status of PAN’.
  • Enter the Aadhaar number and submit the OTP sent to the Aadhaar registered mobile number.
  • Validate the Aadhaar details and email ID.
  • Check the application status of the PAN, whether PAN allotment is made or not.
  • If the PAN is allotted, click on the download link to get an e-PAN pdf.
