DO No. 26/CH(IC)/2022

30th May, 2022

To commemorate 75 years of Independence, the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative was inaugurated last year. A number of events celebrating our history, achievements and journey through the last 75 years have been planned for the celebrations that will continue up to the next year.

As part of the celebrations, the Iconic Week for the Department is being observed from the 6th to the 12th of June, 2022. A number of events such as Lecture Series/ Webinars, Digital Exhibitions, Plantation of 75,000 saplings, destruction of seized narcotic drugs etc. have been planned. I would urge all of you to take part in the celebrations with fervour and also reflect on our journey thus far and our path for the future.

It is a testament to our rich heritage that we occupy a number of historic buildings. We will do well to remember that history does not belong to us, rather it is we who belong to it. We must take pride in our heritage and the fact that we have the privilege of working in such environs. To that end, the Directorate General of Taxpayer Services, has been highlighting our heritage properties, most recently through curating a series of social media posts. I would urge you to ensure that these priceless treasures are maintained and preserved for future generations.

Moving on, last week Chief Commissioner, Delhi Customs Zone launched an initiative to track container movement, called Project NIGAH [A Project SAADHIT deliverable]. Developed in collaboration with the Custodian, ICD Garhi Harsaru, Gurugram, the initiative will help in providing better visibility of container movement and will aid in timely clearance of containers, thereby enhancing Ease of Doing Business as well as in better compliance monitoring. Kudos to Chief Commissioner, Delhi Customs Zone and his team of officers for an excellent initiative.

On the enforcement side, based on extensive data analysis and field surveillance, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence interdicted at Mundra port, an import consignment declared to contain 1,000 bags of common salt weighing about 25 MT. Examination of the consignment led to the recovery of about 52 kg of Cocaine. My Congratulations to Pr. Director General, Directorate General of Revenue Intelligence and his team for yet another stellar detection.

Before I sign off for the week, I would like to reiterate a message that bears repetition till we have internalized it fully viz. that as an organization, we stand for zero-tolerance for behavior that in any manner compromises our integrity or our professional excellence. I expect all of you to reflect upon this and overtly demonstrate this in your conduct at all times. Devoid of this collective `Sankalp’, our celebration of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav would remain vacuous.

Till next week!

Yours Sincerely,

(Vivek Johri)
