As important as registering yourself under Goods and Service Tax (GST), it is equally important for you to obtain the GST registration certificate. This GST registration certificate can be obtained from the common GST portal. This article we will discuss in details about the steps to be followed to download the GST registration certificate from the GST common portal (Form Reg – 06) and its contents.
In order to download GST registration certificate, you need to access your GST account. You will need to follow the steps below:
STEP 1: Open the GST common portal through the link given https://www.gst.gov.in/
STEP 2: Now, move your cursor towards the ‘Login’ button and click to access the username and password page.
STEP 3: Enter your ‘Username’ and ‘Password’ along with the captcha and click ‘Log in’.
STEP 4: Now, click on Services –> User Services –>Download Certificate.
STEP 5: This is the last step in the downloading procedure, just click on the ‘Download’ button to download the GST registration certificate. The registration certificate comprises all the details on the tax transactions.
The GST registration certificates issued to a normal registered person do not have any expiry and it will remain valid until and unless GST registration is not surrendered or cancelled by GST authority.
In addition to this, for a casual taxable person and for the non-resident taxable person the GST registration is valid for a period of 90 days (from the date of registration). However, the validity of the registration can further be extended at the end of its validity period.
Signature of the concerned officer not present
GST registration certificate is provided on the online portal but not physically. It’s important to note that the signature of the sanctioning authority will not be present on the registration certificate and the system generated certificate itself validates the registration.
Display of registration certificate
It also very important to note that the GST registration certificate is needed to be displayed at all the branches of the business. In addition to this, in case of composition dealer, the words “not eligible to collect tax” or “composition taxable person” must be displayed without fail.
Amendment of GST Registration Certificate during Initial Registration
Amendment in the information of the registration certificate is divided into 2 parts
Amendment in the core fields: The core fields of the registration certificate deals with amendments related to 3 categories
1. Name of the business
2. Principal place of business or Additional place of business
3. Addition / deletion of stakeholders
Amendment in the non-core fields: Amendment in any other fields other than core fields as mentioned above
Amendment to the core field of the registration certificate can be initiated by following the steps below:
1. Access the GST common Portal.
2. Log on to the GST Portal with valid user id and password.
3. Click on the Services > Registration > Amendment of Registration Core Fields.
4. Enter the required changes in any of the fields.
5. In the Verification tab, select the Verification checkbox.
6. In the Name of Authorized Signatory drop-down list, select the authorized signatory.
7. Enter the name of the place in the Place field.
8. Once the application for Amendment of Registration is filled, you need to sign the application digitally using Digital Signature Certificate / E-Signature or EVC.
Once the application requiring amendment is approved or rejected, you will get a notification via SMS and e-mail. The approval order (REG 15) can be viewed or downloaded on the GST common portal. Also, the amended GST registration certificate will be available for download.
