PUBLIC NOTICE NO. 9 /2002-2007

Subject: Procedure for import of certain items under the India-Nepal Treaty of Trade signed on 2.3.2002.
Attention is invited to Government of India, Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) Notification no. 40/2002-Customs dated 12th April, 2002. As per the said Notification, import of the items viz., (i) Vegetable fats (Vanaspati) (ii) Acrylic Yarn (iii) Copper products falling under Chapter 74 and heading 85.44 of the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 (51 of 1975) and (iv) Zinc Oxide is allowed at the rates of duty as indicated therein, upto the quantities as indicated therein, as per all the conditions specified therein.
In exercise of powers conferred under Paragraph 2.4 of the Export and Import Policy 2002-2007, as notified in the Gazette of India extraordinary, Part-II Section 3, Sub Section (ii) vide S.O. No. 349 E dated 31.3.2002, as amended from time to time and as per provisions at condition no. 3 of the Annexure to Notification no. 40/2002-Customs dated 12.4.2002, the Director General of Foreign Trade hereby notifies the following arrangements:
1. Import of the items (i) Vegetable fats (Vanaspati) (ii) Acrylic Yarn (iii) Copper products falling under Chapter 74 and heading 85.44 of the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 (51 of 1975) and (iv) Zinc Oxide, at therates of duty and as per all the conditions specified in Notification no. 40/2002-Customs dated 12th April, 2002, upto the quantities specified therein; viz. not exceeding (i) 100,000 MT in case of Vegetable fats (Vanaspati), (ii) 10,000 MT in case of Acrylic Yarn (iii) 7,500 MT in case of Copper products falling under Chapter 74 and heading 85.44 of the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 (51 of 1975) and (iv) 2500 MT in case of Zinc Oxide, in a time period, which shall commence from the 6th day of March of a given calendar year and end on the 5th day of March of the succeeding calendar year (the unutilized quota for any particular year would lapse and shall not be allowed to be carried forward to the next year), shall be permitted only through the Land Customs Stations (LCS) at Kakarbhitta/Naxalbari, Biratnagar/Jogbani, Birganj/Raxaul, Bhairahawa/Nautanwa, Nepalgunj/Nepalgunj Road and Mahendranagar/Banbasa.
2. The import upto 100,000 MTs of Vegetable fats (Vanaspati) on annual quota basis as mentioned above shall be made only by the Central Warehousing Corporation. The actual imports of Vegetable fats (Vanaspati) by Central Warehousing Corporation would commence with effect from 16th May, 2002.
