Public Notice No. 68 (RE-2003)/2002-07, issued on June 23, 2004, by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), outlines amendments to the procedure for importing certain items under the India-Nepal Treaty of Trade signed on March 2, 2003. The amendments specifically address the import of vegetable fats (Vanaspati) from Nepal. The deadline for importing vegetable fats for the year 2003-04 has been extended to September 5, 2004, with any unutilized quota not lapsing until that date. For the financial year 2004-05, an annual quota of 100,000 MTs will be allowed for imports between September 6, 2004, and March 5, 2005. Additionally, the State Trading Corporation (STC) will be the sole agency responsible for monitoring these imports. All other conditions from the previous Public Notice No. 9/2002-07, dated April 30, 2002, remain unchanged.

NEW DELHI, Dated: 23rd June,2004

Subject: Procedure for import of certain items under the India-Nepal Treaty of Trade signed on 2.3.2003- amendment therein.

In exercise of powers conferred under Paragraph 2.4 of the Export and Import Policy 2002-07, as notified in the Gazette of India extraordinary, Part-II Section 3, Sub Section (ii) vide S.O. No. 349 E dated 31.03.2002, as amended from time to time, the Director General of Foreign Trade hereby notifies the following amendments in Public Notice No. 9/2002-07 dated 30.04.2002 prescribing the procedure for import of certain items under the Indo-Nepal Treaty of Trade signed on 2.3.2002:-

1. The following sub Para 1A shall be amended to read as under:

“However the time period for import of Vegetable fats (Vanaspati) from Nepal for the year 2003-04 shall be extended up to 05.09.2004 and the unutilized quota shall not lapse till this date. The annual quota of 100,000 MTs of Vegetable fats(Vanspati) for the financial year 2004-05 from Nepal shall be permitted for import from 6.9.2004 to 5.3.2005 and thereafter no imports shall be allowed.”

2. Para 2 of Public Notice No. 30 dated 23.10.2003 shall be amended to read as under:

“STC shall be the sole agency to monitor the imports of Vegetable fats (Vanaspati) from Nepal. Other conditions of the Public Notice No. 9 dated 30.4.2002 shall remain unchanged.”

3. This issues in the Public interest.
