On August 7, 2000, the Government of India issued Notification No. 29 (RE-2000), amending the ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items, 1997-2002. The notification introduces a ban on the import of beef in any form and any products containing beef. It also mandates that all consignments of edible oils and processed food products imported in bulk must carry a declaration from the exporter on the shipping documents, confirming that the consignment does not contain beef in any form. Furthermore, all imported consumer-packed edible products must bear a label stating that the product does not contain beef. These amendments aim to ensure compliance with dietary and health regulations related to the import of food items.
