Notification No. 13 (RE-2005)/2004-2009, issued on 8th July 2005, updates the ITC (HS) Classification of Export and Import Items for 2004-2009 under the Foreign Trade Policy. The amendment modifies Condition 14 of Chapter IA (General Notes to Import Policy) regarding the import of various animal products. The updated condition specifies that the import of meat and meat products, including fresh, chilled, and frozen meats, poultry tissue or organs, egg powder, milk and milk products, and pet food, must be accompanied by a sanitary import permit. This permit is to be issued by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, in accordance with the Livestock Importation Act, 1898, as amended by the Livestock Importation (Amendment) Ordinance, 2001. This update aims to ensure that animal products meet the required sanitary standards.

S.O. (E) – In exercise of powers conferred by Section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992 read with paragraph 2.1 of the Foreign Trade Policy – 2004-09 , the Central Government hereby amends the ITC (HS) Classification of Export and Import Items 2004-09 as under:
1. Condition 14 of Chapter I A (General Notes to Import Policy) of schedule -1 (Imports) to the ITC (HS) Classifications of Export and Import items 2004-2009 shall be amended to read as under:
“14. Import of Meat and Meat Products of all kinds including fresh, chilled and frozen meat, tissue or organs of poultry, pig, sheep, goat; egg and egg powder; milk and milk products; bovine, ovine and caprine embryos, ova or semen; and pet food products of animal origin shall be subject to a sanitary import permit to be issued by Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, as per Section 3A of Live-stock Importation Act, 1898,as incorporated by Live Stock Importation (Amendment) Ordinance,2001 dated 05.07.2001 and as notified on 07.07.2001, as amended.”
