In today’s interconnected world, cybercrime is an increasingly alarming concern, especially when it involves impersonation of government bodies. One such critical issue that has recently come to light is the circulation of counterfeit emails impersonating CEO of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), Shri Rajesh Kumar.

The Nature of the Emails: The counterfeit emails have been observed to carry the subject lines such as “Urgent Notification!” and “Court Notification”. These emails falsely employ the logos of respected institutions like the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), the Intelligence Bureau (IB), and the Delhi Police. In doing so, they attempt to gain the trust of the recipient.

The Target: These deceptive emails are not just aimed at individuals but are also targeted at various government offices. They wrongfully accuse the recipients of being involved in cybercrimes, thus coercing them into responding.

Malicious Intent: The key aspect of these counterfeit emails is their malicious intent. The logos and the emails are not just deceptive but intentionally so. They are aimed at causing confusion, mistrust, and initiating wrongful actions against innocent people or bodies.

Official Response: The I4C has clarified that neither their CEO nor the unit has initiated such emails. No authorization has been granted for the production or dissemination of such misleading content. The issue has been publicly addressed, and appropriate measures are being taken. Official alerts have also been shared on social platforms like Twitter to inform the public.

Conclusion: Cybercrime is a complex and ever-evolving challenge, and the case of counterfeit emails impersonating the CEO of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) exemplifies this. The organization has taken steps to alert the public and is working on measures to address this deceptive and harmful activity. The general public and government bodies should remain vigilant and double-check the authenticity of emails, especially those that come with alarming subject lines and request urgent action.
