Introduction: With over six decades in the banking industry, T. R. Radhakrishnan has witnessed the ebb and flow of countless human relationships. From his roles as a bank manager to an NPA Resolution Consultant, his understanding of the bond between banks and borrowers has won him commendations and the ‘Best Customer Service’ award. This piece delves deep into his observations and convictions about the importance of understanding in relationships, especially as seen in the banking world.

A dispassionate and without prejudice view if taken about the objectives of the banks and borrower entrepreneurs, it is evident that their activities are complimentary to each other and not contradictory. They are interdependent on each other and not independent of each other. They are supportive of each other and not opposing each other. Their sustenance and progress depend on each other and not on weakening each other. They have necessarily and inevitably to work together unitedly and in unison to achieve their common goals creating their own wealth which will contribute building up a robust economy making the nation a foremost global economic power. Therefore any recovery proceedings undertaken by the bank should ensure that the interest of the bank and the borrower should not be jeopardized. Through mutual understanding, cooperation between the lender and the borrower and for mutual benefit, they should jointly explore new opportunities for development and progress and stability with sincerity of purpose and purity of heart and with the objective of working together under the old dictum “UNITED WE STAND AND DIVIDED WE FALL” to create a robust economy for the nation. The only way the bank and the borrower can achieve their common objective mutually acceptable solution of an amicable settlement is through compromise proposal settlement to create a win-win situation. It may not be a travesty of truth nor self-boasting if I say that my team achieved unthinkable settlements for big amounts without interest payable in 5 years with maximum concession in the outstanding loan. What I want to convey is that nothing is impossible as the saying goes “If there is will, there is way” and also understanding without any ambiguity with each other. Let us also remember the old saying “A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush”.

In my opinion to understand and be understood is the basis of human relationship. It is communication that wins over people and creates an endearing and enduring interpersonal relationship. Since success depends upon the effectiveness of communication, possession of communication skills becomes an inevitable necessity to cultivate a charismatic personality. Those who have mastered its effective use can change their own experience of the world and the world’s experience of them. All behavior and feelings find their original roots in some form of communication. Those who are successful know to use this power effectively. Effective communication leads to understand things as they are resulting in accepting things in their correct perceptive culminating in finding solutions.

A loving communication, a sincere appreciation will lead to creating an understanding. Understanding pave the way for acceptance and acceptance will lead to adorable relationship and also solve our problems. All communication problems are due to the fact that we don’t listen to understand.

“What joyous discoveries lie ahead when we disclose our true selves, with no purpose other than to understand and be understood?” The human relationship is purely based on the power of communication. If only we can understand each other well, it would have served the purpose of human welfare and problem solving without any conflict of interest and misunderstanding. Do you agree with me my Dear Readers? If yes, please convey your acceptance to me. If not, please spell out your alternative to me.
