Any exercise in modernising EPF Scheme is necessarily fated to be futile and undoubtedly aimed at enriching the coffers of some favourite consultant, some pet software and computer system suppliers and, above all, at ensuring many foreign trips by civil servants. Until and unless there is total transparency in the working of this Scheme, with totally doing away with the need for personal visits by the beneficiaries, and compulsory transactions only through secure website, no amount of so called and high sounding “modernisation” will be able to destroy the official mafia-cum-agent menace now prevailing in all levels of this exploitative machinery.
