The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has constituted a committee on Public Finance with the objective of extending a helping hand to the Centre, state and local administrative departments in nation building, an official of ICAI said on Monday. ICAI Programme Director V C James told reporters here, the committee’s key objective is to study, review, analyse and recommend measures to tackle the fiscal problems of the central or state governments, PSUs, Civic bodies, financial institutions and local administrative departments. The committee organises joint state summits in participation with the Finance Ministry and premier government educational institutions/ organisations to create awareness on public finance for officials, members and general public. Many state governments including Meghalaya, Kerala, Delhi, Gujarat have requested the committee to take up consultancy on different areas, he said. The Committee on Public Finance of ICAI jointly with the Centre for Taxation Studies, Kerala has organised a summit ‘Issues Concerning Public Finance’ at Kochi on December 27, he said. Around 800 delegates are expected to participate in the summit, he said.
