To me courage is the ability to convert weakness into strength, obstacles into stepping stones and disasters into triumph.
And if I have to put it in one line courage is not the absence of fear, it is the conquest of fear.
Danveer Karna the great warrior in Mahabharta . He is been taken to fight Arjuna and his sarthi Magadha naresh asks him “Danveer tum ek ranbhat, randheer, ajay yodha sai ladnay jaa rahay ho kya tumhay darr nahi lagta and the answer that comes from Danveer Karna is fantastic, Madra Naresh vo kath kai yodha hotay hai jinhe darr nahi lagta, mera darr mujhay jagrukh rakhta hai, mujhay satark rakhta hai, meray aatamvishwas ko kured tah nahi.”
Courage is not something that comes from flying to your heart in moments of need or in emergencies. Courage is not something that can be handed over to you through lessons either.
Courage is a way of life. It is as much a habit as anything else. The real test of courage is in our daily lives. The courage to speak the truth. The courage to speak our mind and not stay silent, simply because we are afraid that other people might not agree with us. Off course there will be conflicting views and off course conflict is unpleasant. But not speaking our mind can lead to much worse unpleasantness.
So make efforts to rise above your fears. I believe that every day people’s simple acts of courage take them from being ordinary to extraordinary.
