What is Time Management?
It is a set of principles, practices, skills, tools and systems that helps us to use our time to accomplish what we want.
Why Time Management is important?
Time is one of life’s most valuable possessions, as it is something you can never get back. Subsequently one of the most essential life skills to master is time management. After all, time management is really life management. Learning how to make every day count for something is the objective. But it takes ridding your life of procrastination and a great deal of self discipline.
When a time is managed smartly it just not increases productivity but it also yields health benefits, minimizes stress and improves the overall quality of life.
Some time management tips to hack productivity are –
1. Set Daily Goals :
Goal setting is a key concept of time management. Setting daily goals allows you to think about what needs to be done and mentally prepare for each task.
Goals provide clarity, purpose, and meaning at work.
2. Follow the 80-20 Rule :
80-20 Rule is known as the Pareto Principle. This rule states that 80% your efforts produce only 20% of your results while the remaining 20% of your efforts drive 80% of your results.Identify the 20% of the efforts that are producing 80% of the results and scale that out.
3. Shut Down Distractions :
What takes your time away your work? Facebook? Twitter? Continuous messaging with friends and family? Stop checking them so often. Set times and limits and wean yourself off of these distractions.
4. Keep Time Log :
It’s useful to track our daily activities and how much time each takes. This will give realistic view of how we spend our time as well as what interruptions there are.
5. Learn to Say NO :
This is extremely important because our time is limited, so we can’t say yes to everything and accede to every request. We have to stick to what is important and know when to just say “NO”.
6. Reward Yourself :
You need to treat yourself when you do the right thing. Take a few minutes out of every hour to take a break and do something you enjoy. Break will keep your mind fresh and we will be able to return to our work with better focus.
7. Take Care of Yourself :
Be sure to get sleep of 6-7 hours and make exercise a habit. An alert mind is a high functioning mind.
Time Management should not be approached with heaviness and as an ordeal but with joy. Once you master the art you are sure to go places.
