The Finance Minister Shri Mukherjee was referring to the benchmark indices which lost 2.5 per cent as of 2 PM today as overseas markets declined on concerns over US’ third quarter growth and high yields on Spanish bonds. He said that in India, a day ahead of the expiry of the November futures contract, trading remains choppy. Regarding the rupee, the Finance Minister Shri Mukherjee said that the volatility in the Rupee is also keeping investors nervous, though today the rupee recovered from a low of 52.73 to trade at 52.12 per dollar.
Please refer to the instructions contained in paragraphs 2 and 3 of our Master Circular DBOD. No. FSD.BC.15 / 24.01.001/ 2011-12 dated July 1, 2011 on Para-Banking Activities which deal with the guidelines for setting up of subsidiaries by banks as also banks’ investments in financial services companies which are not subsidiaries. These require Reserve Bank’s prior approval and are permitted within certain prescribed prudential limits.
The Delhi High Court today stayed the direction of the Central Information Commission (CIC) asking the Reserve Bank of India to provide details of industrialists who have defaulted in repayment of loans taken from nationalised banks. A bench of Justice Vipin Sanghi, in its interim ex parte order, asked the information-seeker to respond to the petition filed by the RBI challenging the CIC order.
The Central Board of Directors of the Reserve Bank of India met today at Kolkata. Dr. D. Subbarao, Governor, Reserve Bank of India chaired the meeting. Directors Sarva Shri Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Kiran Karnik, M.V.Rajeev Gowda, Y.H.Malegam, Azim Premji, Dipankar Gupta, G. M. Rao, Ms. Ela Bhatt and Dr. Indira Rajaraman attended the meeting. The Government nominee, Shri R.Gopalan, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs also attended the meeting. Deputy Governors Dr. K.C.Chakrabarty, Dr. Subir Gokarn, Shri Anand Sinha and Shri H.R. Khan were also present.
FDI, up to 100 per cent, under the automatic route, would continue to be permitted for green field investments in the pharmaceuticals sector. (ii) FDI, up to 100 per cent, would be permitted for brownfield investment (i.e. investments in existing companies), in the pharmaceutical sector, under the Government approval route.
Attention of Authorised Dealers Category – I (AD Category – I) banks is invited to the A.P. (DIR Series) Circular No. 74 dated June 30, 2011, allowing thereby issue of equity shares/ preference shares under the Government route by conversion of import of capital goods, / machineries / equipments (including second-hand machineries) and pre-operative / pre-incorporation expenses (including payments of rent, etc.), subject to terms and conditions stated therein.
In this regard, we advise that as the interest rate on savings deposits have since been deregulated, the banks shall compensate the investors for the above mentioned financial loss at their own Saving Bank deposit rate for respective amounts (i.e. ` 1 lakh and over ` 1 lakh) without any discrimination.
In a developing nation’s economy, it’s the small and micro enterprises which play a vital role. If India has to have a growth rate of 8-10 percent for the next couple of decades, it needs a strong micro and small sector and micro entrepreneurs need to be nurtured. They not only give employment to a large number of people but also support bigger industries by supplying raw material, basic goods, finished parts and components, etc.
This paper examined the operation of credit channel of monetary policy rate transmission in India during the post-LAF period of 2001:3 to 2011:3. Drawing on the literature, two reduced form equations, one representing nominal bank credit and the other real bank credit was estimated. The regression estimates were carried out after transforming the variables to stationary form and following an approach similar to Hendry’s general-to-specific method. Stability and structural break tests were performed, and rolling regressions were estimated to confirmed robustness of the results.
