DSC documents requirement is mainly classified into three categories, which are as follow:

– For an Individual

– For an Organization

-For Foreign National

1. The following documents are required for all classes 2 and 3 and Server Certificates for an individual: –

Nowadays, if you have a valid Aadhar card as well as Pan Card so, you can get your DSC within a few hours of completing the OTP and Video Verification process.

a. Attested copy of any one of the following as identity proof (attestation may be by any Gazetted Officer/Bank Manager)

    • Aadhar Card
    • Passport/ Driving License
    • PAN card
    • Post Office ID Card
    • Bank Account Passbook containing the Photograph and signed by an individual with attestation by the concerned Bank official
    • Any Government-issued photo ID Card bearing the signature of the individual or Photo ID Card issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs of Centre/State Government

b. Attested copy of any one of the following as Address Proof (attestation may be by any Gazetted Officer/Bank Manager)

    • Telephone Bill/ Electricity Bill/ Water Bill/ Gas Connection
    • Bank Statements signed by the Bank
    • Service Tax /VAT/Sales Tax registration certificate
    • Property Tax/Corporation/Municipal corporation receipt
    • Driving Licence/ Voter ID Card/ Passport
    • Certificate of Registration for owned Vehicle

2. The following documents are required for all classes 2 and 3 and Server Certificates for an Organization: –

a. Attested copy of any one of the following as Identity Proof (same as above)

b. True copy of anyone (from the Company Secretary/Director/Partner of the organization)

    • Certificate of Incorporation
    • Memorandum of Association/Articles of Association
    • Partnership Deed
    • Post Office ID Card
    •  Valid Business License

c. True copy of anyone (attested by Company Secretary/Director/Partner of the organization)

    • Annual Report
    •  Latest Income Tax Return
    •  Latest Bank Details of the organization from the Bank
    • Statement of Income issued by Chartered Accountant

d. Authorization letter in favor of the certificate applicant from the organization

e. Domain Name registration proof from the registrar of Domains (if applying for Server Certificate)

3. The following documents are required for all classes 2 and 3 and Server Certificates for the Foreign National: –

a. Proof of Identity (All of below)

  • Attested copy of applicant passport
  • Attested copy of VISA (If the applicant is out of the native country)
  • Attested copy of Resident Permit Certificate (if the applicant is in India)
  • Note: i) Attested copy of PAN is mandatory if the applicant has a PAN

b. Proof of Address (Any one of below)

  • Attested copy of applicant passport (containing address as part of it)
  • Attested copy of any other Government/Bank issued address proof

FAQ’s – Frequently Asked Questions on Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)

1. What is the cost and time of obtaining a Digital Signature Certificate?

Ans. The cost, as well as time of obtaining a digital signature certificate, may vary as there are many entities issuing DSCs and their charges may differ. Kindly check with Certifying Authority directly for charges and timeline. But, Generally, CAs issue a DSC within a day.

2. What is the validity period of a Digital Signature Certificate?

Ans. The Certifying Authorities are authorized to issue a Digital Signature Certificate with a validity of one or two years.

3. Places where you can use your DSC?

Ans. You can use Digital Signature Certificates for the following:

a. For secure email and web-based transactions, or to identify other participants of web-based transactions.

b. To prove ownership of a domain name and establish SSL/ TLS encrypted secured sessions between your website and the user for web-based transactions.

c. As a developer, for proving authorship of a code and retaining the integrity of the distributed software programs.

d. For signing web forms, e-tendering documents, filing income tax returns, accessing membership-based websites automatically without entering a user name and password, etc.
