Every Person who is going to start a business of Import or Export in India is required to get his PAN based Import-Export Code (IEC) from Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), whether a person is willing to export his goods and services outside India or he is willing to import his goods or service from outside India.
Import Export Code is first requirement for business of import –export, but it is not required for the following circumstances:
1. Import/export of goods for personal use, which is not connected with trade, manufacture or agriculture.
2. Import/export by government ministries and departments, and certain notified charitable organizations.
Now our government has made simple procedure, through which a person can get his Import Export Certificate within 2-3 days after submission of application, which is completely connected to ease of doing business in India and Export –Import is becoming more simple & apt gradually.
Following are the steps to obtain Import –Export Code (IEC)
Step: 1 Prepare the Digital Signature.

Step:3 Login by visiting http://164.100.78.104:8080/dgftiec/IEClogin.jsp
Now enter your PAN on login page and mention your valid Email and Mobile number, as every time you login for IEC you need to mention 2 OTP’s (one time password) from your mobile and Email.
After Signing Up Fill your details in the application available there and Upload the documents required.
Step: 4 Proceed for Payment and Attach Digital Signatures
After successfully filling of application further proceed for payment through online mode, for applying new registration.
Now click on Digital Signature and attach the DSC of applicant and submit the same.
Post implementation of all steps an IEC Certificate is generally issued within 2-3 days if your application is complete without any discrepancy, as if any discrepancy found in the IEC application department only rejects the application and fees needs to be paid again.
