Regarding Classification of Fused Silica under Customs Tariff Act, 1975

Circular No.03/2012 – Customs – The matter of correct classification of fused silica under the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 was taken up for discussion during the Conference of Chief Commissioners of Customs on Tariff and allied matters held in May 2011. After examining the various entries in the said schedule and the technical aspects of the product in question, it was decided that the Chief Commissioners under whose jurisdiction the import of fused silica are taking place, shall furnish the technical details of the product to the Board; it was also decided to seek an expert opinion before arriving at a final decision regarding classification of the product. Board now clarifies that ‘Fused Silica’ is correctly classifiable under tariff item 32074000.

Auto TDS and TDS interest calculator

This calculator calculates TDS amount deductible under section 194C, 194D, 194A, 194H, 194I and 194J. The calculator calculates TDS automatically on the basis of status of the Assessee and if PAN No. is not provided it will show the rate f TDS as 20%. The calculator also calculates interest on TDS amount deducted but not paid. The calculator is useful to compute TDS liability in respect of expenses or payment related to period on or after 01.04.2011.

If that be the position, the period of limitation prescribed for demand of duty under Section 11A is normally one year and, in exceptional circumstance of a case falling under the proviso to Section 11A(1), the period of limitation is five years.
