The Directorate General of Foreign Trade has been receiving representations from various quarters seeking clarifications as regards the Classification of certain specific items under the ITC(HS) Classifications of Exports and Imports Items, 1997-2002. Such requests made in terms of para 4.13 of the policy for issue of appropriate clarifications etc. have been examined and based on the decision(s) arrived at by the committee set up for this purpose, the applicants have been suitably advised about the appropriate classification of such items under the ITC(HS).
Circular No.542/38/2000-CX I am directed to say that consequent upon the amendment in Central Excise Rules with effect from 1.4.2000 allowing the Central Excise assessees to pay duty on fortnightly basis instead of payments consignment-wise, it became essential to review the format of Returns being submitted by assessees. Notification No. 48/2000-CX (NT) dated 18th August, 2000 has since been issued whereby new RT-12 Form has been prescribed, in place of the existing RT-3/RT-3 (modified) and RT-12 Forms.

R. 542(E), dated 16th June, 2000, published in Gazette of India, Extry., Part II, section 3, sub-section (i), dated 16th June, 2000, at page 50, in line 12 for “paragraph 2(f)” read “paragraph 2(g)”.
