Union Finance Minister has said that there would be no difficulty to bring Direct Tax Code, DTC into operation from 1st of April next year. Mr. Pranab Mukherjee expressed hope that the Parliamentary Standing Committee will submit its report by Winter Session of Parliament. Speaking at a function in New Delhi, the minister said, since the Bill is still with the Standing Committee, stakeholders have time to give their views.

The Union Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee has expressed confidence that the fundamentals of the economy are strong and the growth drivers in the medium term remain broadly intact. He was interacting with the captains of top business houses, here today. During his two and a half hour marathon meeting with top business leaders of the country, he said that the industry should play a proactive role in taking the country to the path of higher trajectory of growth. He said that such interaction should help in building the synergy needed to propel the economy to greater heights in the coming months.
UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Mr.George Osborne and the Union Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee, attended the fourth round of Ministerial level India – UK Economic and Financial Dialogue, which was held yesterday in London. Union Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee said that inflation figures reported for the month of June 2011 continues to be matter of concern. The Finance Minister said that we are monitoring the price situation closely. He said that Government is working together with RBI to take appropriate steps to reduce inflation to more comfortable level. Shri Mukherjee was reacting to the figures of headline WPI inflation for the month of June, 2011 which were released today. The WPI inflation for the month of June 2011 stood at 9.44% as against 9.06% in May 2011 and 9.74% in April 2011.
The government today allowed exports of one million tonnes of non-basmati rice, lifting an over three-year old ban, in the wake of overflowing godowns. The decision to this effect was taken by an Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

The Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee today released a new series of coins with improved design and revised size in the denomination of 50 paise, Rs. 1, 2, 5, and 10. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Mukherjee said that new coins will not only reduce the cost of moving materials but also are of user friendly size and weight. He said that security edging of new series of coins would be good for better recognition by visually challenged persons and will have improved counterfeit resistance.
