Release of Service Tax Book

A new book on Service Tax – New Law of Service Tax in India, authored by Dr. Sanjiv Agarwal, a Chartered Accountant and Service Tax expert was released by Mr. Gautam Bhattacharya, IRS, Commissioner of Service Tax, New Delhi at a function at Delhi. This 1600 page book is the latest book on Service Tax updated upto 20th October 2012 and comprehensively deals with nitty grities of  or Service Tax law, practice and procedures.  The commentary is exhaustive and supported by case laws.

The book launch was followed by a full day workshop on Service Tax conducted by Dr. Sanjiv Agarwal wherein new law of Service Tax,  negative list of services, exemptions, place of provision of services, reverse charge, abatements etc. were discussed in detail. The workshop was attended by government officers, senior executives and professionals.

Finance Act, 2012 has changed the Service Tax landscape by introduction of negative list approach of Service Tax w.e.f. 1st July, 2012. Consequently, all services (except negative list and exempt services) are liable to Service Tax, except if exempt otherwise. The law and practice of Service Tax has also changed significantly with new concepts of taxable and non-taxable territories and place of provision of services having been brought in.

This book is an unique attempt to explain law, practice and procedures of Service Tax comprehensively alongwith relevant notifications, circulars and judicial pronouncements. The book is divided into four parts – Part I is a Referencer comprising of 30 Tables providing a bird’s eye view of the entire gamut of Service Tax including Service Tax computation tables. Part II contain 34 Chapters discussing, concepts, law and procedural aspects of Service Tax which enables the readers to understand the law and use it to their requirements. Part-III discusses the new regime of service tax under negative list approach w.e.f. 1 July 2012 in 8 Chapters written in simple language and suitably illustrated.  Part-IV contains 19 Annexures where one can refer to text of statutory provisions of service tax law, all service tax rules/ guidelines and provisions of central excise as applicable to service tax. A free CD comes as a free add on which contains text of statutory provisions, rules , forms, notifications and circulars.

    One company(first)has supplied manpower to another company(second) on contract basis.Later company deduct TDS on payment to first company.Wheather the first company liable to pay service tax on reverse charge mechanism on the amount paid to laborers .

THIS FOREIGN REVENUE IS SHARED WITH HIM BY FOREIGN BASED ADVERTISING COMPANIES WHO USE HIS FREE SOFTWARE APPLICATION TO GENERATE REVENUE FOR THEMSELVES WHICH IN TURN IS SHARED WITH HIM AS A FORM OF ROYALTY FOR ALLOWING THEM TO USE HIS FREE SOFTWARE FOR THEIR ADVERTISING SERVICES.
