In a recent update, the Income Tax Department has introduced a significant enhancement to its services by relocating the “Know Your Refund Status” feature for PAN users. The service can now be accessed conveniently through the “Services” tab post-login on the e-Filing portal. This move aims to streamline and improve the user experience for individuals tracking their income tax refund status.

Important Instructions for Refund Status:

1. Transition for Refund Determination Before March 31, 2023: Taxpayers whose refund due has been determined on or before March 31, 2023, are advised to visit the Protean (NSDL) website at Refund Status (nsdl.com) to check their refund status.

2. Transition for Refund Determination After March 31, 2023: For individuals whose refund due date has been determined after March 31, 2023, the enhanced functionality within the e-Filing portal can now be utilized to check refund status. The refund determination date can be conveniently verified at the e-Filing portal under “e-File — Income Tax Returns — View Filed Returns — Processed with refund due.”

3. Patience for Recently Determined Refunds: Taxpayers are reminded to exercise patience if their refund has been recently determined, as it may take a few days for the credited amount to reflect in their bank accounts.

4. Refund Helpline and Bank Contacts: 

  • The Refund Banker (SBI) Helpline Number is 18004259760, serving as a dedicated channel for refund-related queries.
  • For issues specific to individual bank accounts, taxpayers are advised to directly contact their respective bank branches.

5. Bank Account Validation and Updation:

  • To ensure the seamless receipt of refunds, it is crucial to have a validated bank account on the e-Filing portal.
  • Taxpayers are encouraged to regularly update and validate bank account details, including IFSC, account number, etc., on the e-Filing portal under “www.incometax.gov.in -> Login -> Profile -> My Bank Account -> Revalidate/Add Bank Account (if applicable).”

Please Note :

1. If your refund due has been determined on or before 31st March 2023, please visit Protean (NSDL) website at Refund Status (nsdl.com) to check your refund status. Refund determination date can be checked at e-Filing portal under “e-File – Income Tax Returns – View Filed Returns – Processed with refund due”.
2. If your refund due date has been determined after 31st March 2023, then this functionality can be used for checking your refund status. Refund determination date can be checked at e-Filing portal under “e-File — Income Tax Returns — View Filed Returns — Processed with refund due”.
3. If your refund has been determined recently, please wait for some days as it takes some days to credit the refund in your bank account.
4. Please note that the Refund Banker(SBI) Helpline Number is 18004259760 for refund related queries. For issues related to your specific bank account, please contact your bank branch.
5. Please note that receipt of refund requires a validated bank account on e-Filing portal and updation of bank account details, such as IFSC, bank account number and so on in already validated bank account from time to time and its re-validation. You may check your validated bank account details at www.incometax.gov.in  -> Login -> Profile -> My Bank Account -> Revalidate/Add Bank Account (if applicable).
