Income Tax Department Identifies 67.54 lakh Potential Non-Filers for F.Y. 2014-15
The Non-filers Monitoring System (NMS) was rolled out for identification of non-filers with potential tax liabilities. Data analytics carried out by the Systems Directorate of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) identifies non-filers about whom specific information is available in the AIR, CIB and TDS/TCS databases.
The Income Tax Department has conducted the fifth cycle of data matching which has identified an additional 67.54 lakh potential non-filers who have carried out high value transactions in the financial year 2014-15 but did not file return of income for the relevant assessment year i.e. A.Y 2015-16. The information relating to the identified non-filers has been made available in the ‘Compliance Module’ on the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department. The information will be visible only to the specific PAN holder when they log into the e-filing portal at https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in. The PAN holder will be able to respond electronically and retain a copy of the submitted response for record purpose.
While the Government urges all tax payers to disclose their true income and pay taxes accordingly, the Department would continue to pursue the non-filers vigorously till all the high potential non-filers are covered.

Pls see notification dtd 23/12/16, IT deptt have added a pdf of 9 pages, step by step method to meet compliance. Now pls ‘login’ and on ‘dashboard’ you will find ‘my pending actions’ and also your ITR details. It is easy now. Please donot loose heart. If you have filed ITR thru a CA ask him/her your password. Then you can ‘log in’. I have filed myself without consulting anyone and without any problems. The system now is very user friendly. Your daughter’s income may be less than Rs250000/-, but you will get back the tax deducted!. Why loose money?
Government is creating panic
Sir,
Illiteracy & ignorance about Income Tax Law and even fear about probable difficulties with official matters is the main reason for non filing of IT Returns. Thus, there is utmost need to generate proper awareness among the target groups.
I submit that for generating awareness the best tool is no other than “Income Tax Practitioners (ITPs)”. Therefore, encouraging Enlistment of more and more aspirants to become “Income Tax Practitioner (ITP)” in the “Register of Income Tax Practitioners” maintained by the Jurisdictional CITs shall definitely work for generating awareness. Since, there shall not be any financial burden on Government in encouraging/allowing/introducing more & more Income Tax Practitioners. Since the scope provided to act as an “Income Tax Practitioner (ITP)” under Income Tax Law, is a self-employment opportunity, there will not be any salary, remuneration, honorarium or commission, etc., from the Government to the Income Tax Practitioners. Yet, encouraging ITPs will help the Government to make proper awareness among target groups to file ITRs and mobilize funds by way of taxes from assessees, and even that the Income Tax Practitioners could motivate, encourage & bring in new assessees to disclose properly their income & sources of income and to pay due income tax timely.
Out of the 67.54 lakh potential non-filers for F.Y. 2014-15 identified by Income tax department, one is my daughter who had an annual income of Rs. 75,000/- for which IT department has sent a email requesting to file the return. When I informed that she has filed her IT Return even though there is no taxable income, they have asked me to contact assessing officer. As per IT Department, how many more of such potential non filers are there for FY 2014-15 out of 67.45 lakhs?
