There is a need to focus on single window clearance for speeding up the progress of Special Economic Zones, according to Mr D.K. Mittal, Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce, Government of India.
Addressing the participants in an open house organised by Export Promotion Council for EOUs and SEZs (EPCES), Mr Mittal said the objective of the SEZ Act was to give a boost to exports and industrial growth by attracting investments, among others.
On the concerns of the likely curtailing of benefits being given to SEZs in the proposed Direct Tax Code, the official said he said that it was for both theDepartment of Commerce and developers to present a case before the Parliamentary Committee for continuing the benefits.
While lauding Andhra Pradesh for setting up the highest number of SEZs in the country, he however, said there was scope for much improvement.
