FSSAI Stands for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. It is an autonomous body established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India in the year 2006 with the motive to protect the health of public, provide food safety license to every Food Business Operator (FBO) in India. FSSAI makes sure that the food business runs with appropriate license and a quality check over the products.
The FBO are required to follow the FSSAI rules and guidelines. FSSAI is entirely responsible for setting the standard and principles and controls for the welfare of food businesses in India.
WHAT IS FSSAI REGISTRATION/LICENSE?
FSSAI registration is a mandatory compliance used to ensure the safety of food products and it is essentially a food safety certificate issued by the food authority in India.
FSSAI license is mandatory before starting any food business. All the manufacturers, traders, restaurants who are involved in food business must obtain a 14-digit registration or a license number which must be printed on food packages.
‘FSS (Licensing & Registration) Regulations, 2011, Licenses and Registrations are granted to FBOs in a 3-tier system i.e.
- Registration,
- State license
- Central License.
APPLICABILTY:
Entity (FBO) which are required to apply for FSSAI registration are as follows:
- Manufacturers [including Repackers & Relabellers] Importers & Exporters,
- Retailer & Wholesaler,
- Hotels, Restaurant, Club Canteen,
- Food Transporters,
- Dairy & Vegetable Oil Processing Units,
- Slaughtering House,
- Meat Processing Units,
- Storage,
- E Commerce,
- Mid-day Meal Canteen & Caters,
- Dhaba’s,
- Hawker
- Food Vending Machine
Basic Registration: –
Petty Food Business Operators (FBO) who manufactures or sells any article of food or a petty retailer, hawker, itinerant vendor or a temporary stall holder or small scale or cottage or such other industries relating to food business or tiny food business operator having annual turnover up to Rs. 12 Lacs and/or whose
i. production capacity of food products does not exceed 100 kg or litres per day, or
ii. procurement or handling and collection of milk is up to 500 litres of milk per day, or
iii. Slaughtering capacity is 2 large animals or 10 small animals or 50 poultry birds per day or less
Period for FSSAI License:
FSSAI license can be applied for 1 year up to maximum 5 years at a time and renewed accordingly.
List of the documents required for Basic Registration
1. Passport Size Photo
2. Government issued Photo ID such as AADHAAR, PAN, Voter ID etc.
3. Proof of Address of Businesses activity (if address is other than as mentioned in Photo ID Card)
Govt Fee for Basic Registrations: –
Rs. 100 per year
