Notification No. 33 (RE-2005)/2004-09, dated October 31, 2005, issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), introduces amendments to Schedule-I of the ITC (HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items for the period 2004-09. Exercising its powers under Section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, the government has revised the import policies for certain lead compounds to enhance regulatory control.
Under the updated policy, tetraethyl lead (EXIM Code 29310030) is classified as “Restricted,” requiring specific approval for its import. Similarly, while imports under EXIM Code 29310090 are generally “Free,” the import of tetramethyl lead is explicitly restricted. These amendments aim to address environmental and safety concerns associated with these substances, ensuring responsible import practices while maintaining compliance with public interest mandates.
