Prakash Sharma, a contestant from Jaipur, had approached the court against an order on postal ballots by T. Karthikeyan, secretary, ICAI.  The Rajasthan high court has stayed the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) from declaring the results of the election to its apex council held on 4-5 December. The results were to be declared on 6th of January’10.

Prakash Sharma, a contestant from Jaipur, had approached the court against an order on postal ballots by T. Karthikeyan, secretary, ICAI. Sharma said ICAI had declared two postal ballots in sequence as invalid and rejected ballots sent through different post offices in the same town citing possible manipulation. This, he said, resulted in a shortfall of about 170 votes, leading to his defeat.

Kathikeyan was not available for comment, but an official at ICAI confirmed the news. He did not want to be identified.
